Other Names: Black Tang, Kelp Ware, Rockweed, Bladder Fucus, Sea Oak, Cut Weed, Rock Wrack.
Bladderwrack is a seaweed found on submerged rocks on the coasts of the North Sea, the western Baltic Sea, on both coasts of North America, and in Europe north of the Mediterranean. The main use of the seaweed has been for the stimulation of the thyroid gland as a treatment for obesity and cellulite. The high iodine content of the herb stimulates thyroid function which boost metabolism.
It is known to relieve rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis and joint inflammation. Bladderwrack is rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulfur, silicon, and iron and high in some B-complex vitamins. It contains moderate amoubnts of phosphorus, selenium, manganese and zinc and small amounts of vitamins A, C, E and G. Also contains vitamin S and K, it is rich in algin and mannitol, carotene and zeaxantin with traces of bromine.
