Indications and Combinations: | 1. Tonifies Kidney Yang Impotence, infertility: Kidney jing (essence) deficiency, unable to support yang, causes impotence, amenorrhea and infertility. Suo Yang nourishes Liver yin and warms Kidney yang. It more strongly assists yang and mildly nourishes jing and blood. ~Nocturnal emissions, impotence: Use Suo Yang with Rou Cong Rong (Herba Cistanches) and Fu Ling (Poria) and Sang Piao Xiao (Ootheca Mantidis) with honey. . ~Soreness and weakness of the back and knees: Combine with Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) and Gui Ban (Plastrum Testudinis). 2. Lubricates Intestines and Promotes Bowel Movement Constipation due to dryness: Lack of nourishment to the intestines causes constipation or dry stools. Suo Yang, when used in large quantities over a prolonged period of time, moistens the intestines. ~Constipation: Use Suo Yang with honey or with Sang Shen Zi (Fructus Mori). |
Dosage: | 10 to 15 grams in decoction or pill form. |
Cautions: | Suo Yang is contraindicated in patients ith diarrhea caused by Spleen deficiency or constipation from excess heat. It is contraindicated in yin-deficient patients who are easily aroused sexually. |
